Terms of Service
Storm Sniff is operated by Tim Smyk (ABN 15 610 526 678), Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.
By using Storm Sniff you agree to these terms. They're meant to be readable rather than impenetrable — if anything is unclear, email stormsniffapp@gmail.com.
What Storm Sniff is
An information service that monitors weather, lightning, and fireworks events and notifies you when conditions are likely to distress your dog. It runs as a web app and (on Pro) sends notifications via push, email, and SMS.
Storm Sniff is not veterinary advice. The medication reminders, dosing windows, and behaviour suggestions are tools to help you act on advice you've already received from your vet. They are not a substitute for a vet consultation. Don't change your dog's medication based on what this app shows you — talk to your vet first.
Your account
- You're responsible for keeping your password safe.
- One person, one account. Don't share logins.
- You must be 16 or older to create an account.
- Don't impersonate another person or entity.
Free vs Pro
The Free tier (one nightly outlook email and the dashboard) is yours forever, no card required. Pro adds real-time alerts and additional channels for $2.99/month or $16.99/year, billed via Stripe. You can cancel any time from the billing portal — your Pro features stay active until the end of the current billing period.
Refunds and Australian Consumer Law
If something goes wrong on our end — a bug, an outage that caused you to miss an alert — email us within 14 days and we'll refund the affected period.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)) or other applicable consumer protection legislation. Where those laws apply, you may be entitled to remedies that these terms cannot exclude or restrict.
Outside of the above, we don't offer prorated refunds. Just cancel and you won't be billed again.
Acceptable use
Please don't:
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or resell the data or the service.
- Use the service to send unsolicited messages to others.
- Attempt to access or compromise other users' accounts or our systems.
- Use the service in a way that breaches the law in your jurisdiction.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these rules, without notice where the breach is serious.
Data and privacy
Covered separately in the Privacy Policy. Short version: we collect only what we need to deliver alerts, we don't sell your data, and you can delete your account at any time.
Liability
We work hard to deliver alerts on time, but no weather or notification system is perfect. Lightning data has detection lags, push notification services can be delayed, and networks can fail. Storm Sniff is provided on an "as is" basis — we cannot guarantee that every storm will trigger an alert, and we are not liable for any loss (including injury to your dog) caused by an alert that did not arrive or arrived late. Your safety routines should not depend on a single notification source.
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Storm Sniff is limited to the greater of:
- (a) the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or
- (b) AUD $100.
Nothing in this clause excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or other applicable law.
Changes to these terms
If we make material changes, we'll email you at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of Storm Sniff after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia. Any disputes will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Australia, unless your local consumer protection law requires otherwise.
